Good morning! Wow, the summer is going by fast. We had such a HOT June and July, and now it has cooled down considerably. So much so that the pool may not get used again this season! Welcome to Happy Homemaker Monday and please see Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom, our lovely host, for more posts.
The Weather
Here in southern New England it is nice and cool, 70 degrees with a high of 82, but the humidity is 88%, which means that the air conditioner will be going on as soon as it gets a little warmer. Otherwise I would happy to have our fan going all day, but the humidity is a killer of the pantry items, as everything gets stale and moldy.
Right Now
It is 9 am EDT. My husband and oldest son are at work, my other two sons are at scout camp, and my daughter is home and still asleep. The washer and dryer are running and I need to get some groceries, but my son had to take my van to go to work as his car is broken, which means I have to drive our truck. I don't like getting groceries with the truck because the back is too high. My van is perfect for the job, so I may put it off until tomorrow, when my son is off. We have a new-for-us used car sitting in our driveway right now, but we need to get it registered and the department of motor vehicles is not open today.
Thinking
That I am feeling grateful, and it is a wonderful feeling. The problems have not disappeared, but I am feeling close to the Lord and when I do, I know He is in charge, and I feel safe. I am still grateful it is summer (not sick of it yet) - I have been able to read a lot, and even managed to work some last week and clean the house, how is that possible?! I am grateful my kids have been doing things that fulfill them and give me a break from all of the running around, but I do miss them when they are gone. Last week my youngest was home and we played computer games, watched the Harry Potter movies, talked about books and other things, and it was fun. Now he has left me again but I have my daughter home for all but one week later in August, and we are going to do some lunches with the ladies (meaning my sister and mother).
On My Reading Pile
I finished Gone Girl, which was not my cup of tea. Read The Awakening by Kate Chopin. I am now reading books from a list of the top 100 novels of all time. Some I have read (but not many), and right now I am on The Catcher in the Rye. Next will probably be I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
On My TV
I watched the very first episode of Sherlock, which I really enjoyed, and am awaiting the dvds of Veronica Mars from Netflix. I watched all of the Harry Potter movies and The Hobbit with my son while he was home.
What I Found While Surfing the Net
nothing new this week
On the Menu for This Week
I am not ready with this yet!
On My To Do List
Laundry and a quick vacuum.
Looking Forward to This Week
I will probably do lunch out once a week with my daughter, so I will say that is what I am most looking forward to!
Looking Around the House
My husband is back from camp so that means his stuff is lying around, but he's not too bad! There are a couple of flashlights and this mysterious bundle of rope that has been in my car all summer that I finally brought in but nobody claimed it. For the most part it is in good shape - just 10 minutes to put things away and it will look great.
From the Camera
My daughter celebrating her 17th birthday with two of her brothers. Not easy to get them to play nice when I am taking a picture.
On My Prayer List
The usual suspects: my kids, mom, in-laws.
Bible Verse
Genesis 39:9 "There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"
We talked about prayer and purity in church yesterday, and I thought of this scripture which we teach to our youth. I have found that when I am on the Lord's side (which I get to when I pray and study the scriptures regularly), my attitude is like Joseph's: I do not want to sin because why would I want to offend God, whom I love and who loves me? As opposed to the attitude of having to stay away from sin because I am supposed to, making it more of a burden to obey. It takes work to have the right attitude and love in our hearts, but it is work worth doing and the most rewarding.
Have a great week!

I always enjoy reading your scripture choices because you always talk about how it relates to you personally and your interpretation :)
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week!
